The Role
The work will be to support the development and refinement of respiratory and inflammation in vivo models in the Respiratory and Inflammation Bioscience department, in vivo Pharmacology Section. Building knowledge of the disease area and increasing the predictability of the Respiratory and Inflammation preclinical models is key to the role. The role will also require a person with scientific and drug hunting skills, to form networks within and outside the company to further understand how preclinical pharmacology can help predict human efficacy for diseases such as COPD, poorly controlled asthma and other inflammatory diseases. The Associate Principal Scientist is expected to coach more junior scientists and providing expert advice and interpretation of complex data and how technology, such as imaging, lung mechanics etc. can help us find new outcome measures pre-clinically to link to clinical findings/expectations. The role holder provides disciplinary scientific leadership and represents the department at interdisciplinary meetings internally as well as externally.
Requirements
We are looking for a scientist with a PhD or equivalent background with extensive experience of respiratory and inflammatory animal models. Experience in other related areas (such as Inflammation, Immunology) is also valuable. Hand-on experience of in vivo models and the Translational aspects of these (including limitations) to the clinic is of high value.
The candidate needs to be a creative, ambitious person with a drive for Drug Discovery. Good team playing and communication skills are required.
Good knowledge of statistical methods and QA/QC procedures used in in vivo work.
Proven track record in supporting drug discovery projects in the delivery of molecules towards clinical development.
Fluency in spoken and written English.
