The market for Additive Manufacturing and several of the next generation's manufacturing technologies is being developed very rapidly, and we are currently experiencing strong growth. Metal powder is used as raw material for the metal-based products that are manufactured with these technologies, which, in turn, leads to a rapidly increasing demand for metal powder, a development that is expected to continue for many years.

Thanks to Product Area (PA) Powder, Sandvik Materials Technology (SMT) already has a leading position in the manufacturing and sales of fine-grained metal powder, especially via our operation in United Kingdom. We manufacture bespoke alloys in high-alloy steel, as well as nickel and cobalt alloys, for some of the world's most demanding customers, operating around the entire world, within an ever-growing number of industries.

The R&D department within PA Powder is responsible for research and development for powder-based products. In order to further strengthen our leading position, we are now planning a major investment in Sandviken with, among other things, developing our know-how with respect to nickel-based alloys and titanium powder, as well as optimization of the powder manufacturing process. As part of this effort, we are looking for an R&D Specialist who wants to take part in starting up the production units in Sandviken and qualifying new products. In this position, your long-term focus will be on the development of new materials, working closely with both internal and external customers.

Job Summary
As an R&D Specialist you will have relatively broad duties and will be a key contact person. Your primary responsibility is for increased knowledge and the development of metallurgy and the powder manufacturing process. You run your own projects and are also involved in process development activities with production in Sandviken/Wales. Following developments in the industry in order to remain in the forefront is another important task.

The position involves about 20 days of travel per year.

We are looking for someone with a Master of Science (MSc.) degree and several years' experience from materials research; in particular, within powder metallurgy. We prefer a PhD in the areas of powder metallurgy, materials science and/or process metallurgy, as well as experience from processes for titanium and/or steel production. Experience in the areas of production process development, production management and leading projects is also advantageous.

We place great weight on your personal qualities, as exemplified by your analytical and problem-solving approach. Your extensive knowledge of materials science makes you the expert that people turn to, and your pedagogical and communicative manner allow you to easily spread competencies and knowledge. Additionally, you are structured and thorough, with the ability to finish what you start. All in all, you are a research guru who can both do the hands-on technical work and move projects forward in a pedagogical and inclusive way.

We are a company with an open-minded culture, actively working to create a workplace that is characterized by diversity and inclusion.
