ABB Traction Motors is globally responsible for the development, design and manufacturing of traction motors. The center of excellence, located in Västerås Sweden, is responsible for the development and order design of traction motors for the global market and for all of ABB's production units. There are engineering offices in China as well as Sweden.
ABB is an independent supplier of traction motors and as such we are in contact with a large number of different international customers and applications. Our customers are mainly train manufacturers or propulsion system providers supplying vehicles for different applications such as high-speed trains, regional trains, metros, tramways and other heavy electrical vehicles.
As R&D Senior Electrical Engineer you will have a most exciting and important position in our global organization. You will support all three manufacturing locations (Sweden, China and India) building traction motors for railway. This is a very challenging and exciting role where you will be able to grow and be a key part of traction motors development all over the world.
Your responsibilities
Taking a technical leading role within the electrical design of motors for rail vehicles in ABB, coaching others and contributing with knowledge and input also outside the area of responsibility.
Developing our dimensioning tools for traction motors, including development, offering and order tools and direct influence in our development of new products.
Advanced technical support in the sales process, including customer visits and interaction.
Bringing and spreading traction application experience/knowledge to the department and global colleagues.
Responsibility for setting and challenging electrically related design rules which will be used in the design work.
Managing customer contact in cases where advanced technical support is needed and being the expert at fairs and customer meetings.

Your background
A University degree in Electrical Engineering, preferably specializing in Rotating Machines and/or Electrical Drive Systems, or alternatively, a degree in Power Systems, focusing on electrical drive systems or Rotating Machines.
At least 5 years' experience in electrical engineering and preferably from the traction business.
Good understanding of electrical design or motors is required.
General knowledge of thermal design and modeling, is required
Train system and knowledge of the important train parameters that affect the traction motor design, is seen as advantage.
Experience in using motor design programs and knowledge of general frequency converter, is meritorious.
As a person you must be outgoing and enjoy interacting with both customers and colleagues.
Good communication skills in English are a must as you will be daily working in a global company.
It is qualifying/good to have: Swedish, Spanish, Chinese, German or Russian knowledge.
