R&D Scientist or Post-Doc in Materials Technology (Temporary)
Do you want to contribute, build and develop your knowledge and skills in additive manufacturing (AM) within ABB? Are you eager to practically apply your creative thoughts on AM technologies and want to play an important role at ABB Corporate Research in Västerås? This position is within the Insulation and Materials Technology team. The main focus is to pursue research and development on materials and manufacturing technologies to enable the next generation of novel products and systems.

You will be part of ABB Corporate Research in Västerås. We are the largest research center within ABB. ABB Corporate research has world class expertise and state-of-the-art resources to support innovation in the areas of both power technology and automation. Our multicultural research center consists of approximately 250 scientists from 45 different countries. Corporate Research offers access to a wide network within ABB and the opportunity to learn and develop your skills in diversified research. You will develop projects on all levels of complexity. Corporate Research is a good platform for further development of your career within ABB.

Tasks

As a part of ABB Corporate Research, you will work with dynamic, motivating and creative teams with a wide range of experience and competence. You will also have access to highly advanced laboratory and computational facilities. This engaging position will include responsibilities according to below:

• Interact and collaborate with different product experts spread across different ABB businesses and identify opportunities to adopt additive manufacturing (AM) methods.
• Drive technology evaluation and AM feasibility studies related to different products and offer appropriate advice.
• Propose relevant material choices, printing techniques and prototype designs for structures and components as suitable for the application.
• Responsible to independently lead focused time-bound tasks - from concept to final evaluation.
• Perform and/or lead advanced materials characterization/analysis and prototype tests.
• Collaborate with academic/industrial partners and generate innovative ideas and solutions.
• Generate intellectual property and write/deliver quality technical reports.

Qualifications

We are looking for a potential colleague with the following qualifications:

• Masters or PhD degree in any of the following disciplines - Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, with specialization (or thesis) in Metal AM.
• Experience within Metal AM, e.g., strong knowledge of different printing methods, powder metallurgy and handling, running a print job on a printer, design and optimization for AM, experimental validation of printed parts, post-processing methods etc.
• Hands-on experience with Metal AM is highly desirable and is an advantage.
• For PhD degree holders, both fresh and experienced candidates can apply.
• For Master's degree holders in AM, fresh candidates who are highly motivated and driven are also encouraged to apply.
• Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is a prerequisite while Swedish skills are an advantage.
As a person you are creative, self-driven and flexible team player. You also love to take own initiatives and deliver high quality results within the stipulated deadlines. You should be passionate about AM technologies, have a collaborative spirit and you are expected to contribute in an international team environment. Since you will work in an international environment you need to master English with the ability to collaborate with customers as well as colleagues from all over the world.
