You will be part of ABB Corporate Research in Västerås. We are the largest research center within ABB with world class expertise and state-of-the-art resources to support innovation in the areas of both power technology and automation for the ABB Group. Our multicultural research center consists of approximately 250 scientists from 45 different countries. Corporate Research offers access to a wide network within ABB and the opportunity to develop your skills in diversified research and development projects of all levels of complexity; ranging from a prestudy of a specific technology to cross-disciplinary technology development. The position is a regular position at Corporate Research, being an excellent platform for further development of your career within ABB.
Tasks
Would you like to develop the next generation of power equipment in a creative and highly skilled team? As Scientist in Switching Technologies you will create and execute R&D projects from start to finish, with a combination of theoretical and experimental work - that covers every step from idea generation to field installation of the final product. In this role you will get the opportunity to innovate our systems and products by challenging existing design rules in power equipment, switchgears and power systems. You will consider environmental, cost-effective and technical aspects during the project execution. Examples of present activities involve ultra fast actuators and hybrid switching concepts where power electronics and mechanical contacts are combined to be used as future DC breakers or fault current limiters.
Qualifications
You hold at least a Licentiate degree in Electrical Engineering or Applied Physics. You have some experience and knowledge in one or several of the following areas: power apparatus, high frequency system interaction between power apparatuses, prototyping, testing and design (electromagnetic, electrical, thermal or mechanical). You also have experience from multi-physics modelling, simulation and/or experimental verification. It is qualifying if you have worked with switching apparatuses in the past.
As a person you are an excellent team player that deliver results in a timely and efficient manner. You also have a great interest in solving customer problems and the drive to implement solutions. Since you will work in an international environment you need to master English with the ability to collaborate with customers as well as colleagues from all over the world. Last but not least, you have a genuine interest in technology and show creativity and curiosity in all steps of the projects.
The Switching Technology team at Corporate Research in Västerås, Sweden contains 15 team members with different engineering backgrounds and with the same vision; to see future trends within the field and be number one in the world.
