Then you might be the person to be a part of ABB Corporate Research team in Västerås. We are the largest research center within ABB with world class expertise and state-of-the-art resources to support innovation in the areas of both power technology and automation. Our multicultural research center consists of approximately 250 scientists from 45 different countries.
Tasks
Development of power electronics is being increasingly used in the electrical power systems and has become an enabling technology for many new applications. The Power Electronics team at ABB corporate research in Sweden provides expertise in power electronics research area for business units worldwide and cross ABB's entire product range. As an R&D Scientist with us, you will be involved in technology development projects with a focus on innovative solutions for the next generation of power converters for the Medium and High voltage/power applications. Positions are available for candidates with a background in power electronics emerging applications, power electronic systems design, semiconductor device, energy storage integration, topologies, modulation and control engineering for power converters.
You are expected to create and execute R&D projects in a cross disciplinary and international environment. As a part of ABB Corporate Research you will work with dynamic, motivated and creative teams with a wide range of experience and competence with access to highly advanced laboratory facilities.
You demonstrate the ability of challenging existing design and engineering practices in high power converters. Our teams are often internationally composed and we encourage job rotation as a way to develop personal competence and to learn how to work in different cultures. Corporate Research offers access to a wide network within ABB and the opportunity to develop your skills in diversified R&D projects on all levels of complexity.
Qualifications
As an R&D scientist in our team we expect that you have a Master or PhD in power electronics research area. You should have the ability to challenge existing design rules in power electronics to innovate existing and emerging products. Your background has provided you with theoretical understanding as well as experience in power electronic experimental tests. In addition, you are familiar with design and simulation tools such as EMTDC/PSCAD and Matlab/Simulink. Experience in converters topology design, integration, semiconductor characterization, electrical systems modeling and application are valued. Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is a prerequisite while Swedish skills are advantageous. It is of equal importance that you are a driven person who own initiatives and creativity to deliver high quality results in the projects. Last but not least, you have a strong interest in technology and operational development.
