We are responsible for ABB?s strategic research and development worldwide in the areas of power systems, power products and electrical machines. The department is a highly international environment with 130 researchers and engineers from all over the world working at the forefront of research and development in the field of power technology. Electrical systems are becoming increasingly important as key technologies in the global efforts to provide energy to the world?s growing population. At our research facilities, we are developing solutions and technologies contributing to these objectives.
The challenge: As R&D Principal Scientist, Power Electronics to Corporate Research with us, you will lead research projects in the area of power electronics. With focus on HVDC and FACTS applications your assignments will include topology evaluations and control and modulation strategies for power electronics converters. Moreover, you will be involved in strategic activities and contribute to the ABB Strategic Map. You will also participate in research activities targeting future products and systems. As part of a dynamic, creative and experienced team, you will have access to highly advanced laboratory facilities. You will collaborate with leading universities and organizations worldwide. Therefore the position suits you who enjoy challenging current technologies and their limits in a multicultural environment.
The requirements: You combine a Ph.D. in Power Electronics with at least five years? industrial experience within the area. In addition, you are familiar with EMTDC/PSCAD and Matlab/Simulink. As you will spend approximately 20 percent of your time project leading research work, you need excellent project management skills. You probably have academic merits, such as publications or keynote speeches, and are an appreciated mentor. Experience in converters topology as well as power electronics systems modeling and simulation is valued. Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is a prerequisite while Swedish skills are advantageous. Your theoretical background and genuine interest in new technologies provide you with the competence required to connect your research results to ABB?s current portfolio. On a personal level, you pay close attention to details and have a strategic mind. You have excellent planning capabilities and the capacity required to develop the area.
