The R&D Laboratory is a vital part of the R&D Department and the unit is responsible for product, material and preclinical testing. The R&D Laboratory is also responsible for method developing and supports other functions within the company when there are specific needs to involve the Laboratory organization, both on a short and long term basis. The R&D Laboratory is involved in cross-functional projects as well as both internal and external activities.

The R&D Laboratory Manager is having both operational and strategic responsibilities for the department, which is supporting both the Wound Care and the Surgical Division of the company. The main task is to secure the right resource needs to fulfill the business strategies and the R&D plans for both divisions.

The R&D laboratory team is chemistry and biology based, including scientists and engineers where the main purpose is to ensure that existing materials and products are fit for purpose and that new material selections and features/design of new products will be according to given customer standards.

The position includes staff liability for 10 team members and you will actively participate in building your high-performing team. The R&D Manager will work actively to develop and motivate the lab personnel to ensure delivery and customer satisfaction and act as the R&D Laboratory representative in cross-functional settings.

The R&D Manager will also be responsible for directing and managing the work flow of the lab personnel and existing analysis and test processes.

Key Accountabilities:

• Identify new opportunities for evaluation of important product properties in order to increase growth, customer satisfaction and operational efficiency
• Secure that the right competencies are developed and available for defined projects and activities
• Coach each individual in the group to develop their full potential
• Ensure that efficient working methods are developed within areas of competence
• Create a stimulating working environment in order to provide conditions for people to grow
• Accountable for the quality and efficiency of performed activities in the Laboratory
• Ensure that the Laboratory fulfill all regulatory requirement needed
• Create the right prerequisites for external networking

Key Decisions:

• Prioritisation of activities/projects to be performed at the Laboratory
• Decisions on which resource that should be allocated to projects/activities
• All decisions related to requirement and development of the personnel at the Laboratory
• Accountable for the Laboratory budget
• Decisions on which lab methods shall be developed, validated and maintained at MHC HQ

Utbildning/erfarenhet
We believe that you have a University Degree in Science, with a minimum of 3 years of experience from Research & Development activities within the industry. You have at least 3-5 years of personnel management positions and preferably experience from other business areas beside Research & Development. Experience from the Medical device area and regulatory affairs or quality affairs is considered a merit.

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills and proven successful track records of managing, mentoring and developing team members.

In order to succeed in this role you need to have an analytical mindset and be business oriented with a strong customer focus. You also need to have good organisational, influencing and networking skills to drive improvements within the department as well as across functions.

You should have a talent for building good relationships with colleagues and customers and to be able to communicate effectively you need an excellent level of both written and spoken English, the corporate language. You preferably also have good knowledge of Swedish.
