ABB Corporate Research (CRC) is a global organization, part of the group's central functions. In our research projects we often face the challenge of analyzing, evaluating, and reengineering existing software architectures within the business units of ABB, and the need for industrial wireless communication solutions are growing. During these projects we do pre-development type of tasks that usually end up as proof-of-concept solutions. Working closely with the business units our mission is to look for possible synergies, and provide technology transfer across all of ABB.
In our projects we usually monitor, identify, and leverage on existing technologies, to provide solutions to the problem at hand. These solutions can be implemented stepwise or with disruptive innovation.
Responsibilities
Perform in CRC research projects: Technical lead in projects focused on Wireless Communication and Wireless Sensor Networks and, taking the full responsibility from requirements and specification to a finished prototype of state of the art technology.
Represent ABB in external technical organizations, projects and networks

Act as an expert in-house consultant for ABB s business units, focusing on evaluating and improving current solutions and products.
Run technology pre-studies to provide business units with sound data for decision-making, as well as technology development project to provide them with sound technical solutions for inclusion in future products.
The Expert is actively listening to stakeholder s values, concerns and goals, creating technology roadmaps and scanning for opportunities to differentiate, and making assertions about technology directions as well as determining their consequences for the technical strategy and hence architectural approach. The Expert will work in a global environment with a lot of contacts and cooperations with colleagues in and outside of global ABB, at the same time as being part of a local expert team, with a strong team spirit.
Qualifications
You need to partner well with a variety of different stakeholder groups, including management at different levels, business analysts, and developers. The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications:
Communicative
Solid background in Communication Theory, especially wireless
communication & wireless sensor networks. Experience in Embedded Realtime Systems, especially in system / platform design, HW/SW Co-Design, Protocol implementation, UML (and related, like model-driven development), Programming is desirable
Previous experience as technical project leader or technical lead
Interest in methodology and development processes
PhD in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering or equal, work experience from industry is desirable.
