By transforming a challenging situation into a future opportunity, we find ways to turn new technology, new machining methods and new tools into business advantages. With strong focus on R&D and new industry trends, we know how to get our customers prepared for the demands of tomorrow's manufacturing and, at the same time, strengthen our brand.
The R&D Turning Grades department is responsible for the development of new cutting tool materials, focusing on turning grades. Our team of 14 coworkers are a part of Sandvik Coromant in Västberga, Stockholm, and we are now looking for an R&D Engineer in Grade Development. This is a great opportunity to develop and progress in an international environment with a world-leading company.
Key performance areas
As R&D Engineer you develop our next generation of outstanding cutting tool materials and, with your application knowledge, you are constantly improving our understanding of customer demands. You analyze worn cutting tools and feedback from our customers to draw conclusions on how to continuously improve our products and you simplify and transform complex matters into actions that ensure that the R&D departments develop appropriate solutions. You also act as testing leader for our new products in both the laboratory environment and the field, investigating how material properties affect tool performance. Furthermore, you keep up to date on the market and competing trends and innovations.
Some travel, including customer visits for field-testing, is a natural part of the job.
We are looking for someone with a Master or PhD degree in a relevant technical field and a background in Materials Engineering is advantageous in this position. You have work experience from materials development or product development. Preferably, you also have a background from customer interaction related to capturing customer needs and taking them back to product development. While experience from cutting-tool material development is advantageous, it is not a requirement for the right person. Experience in writing reports, as well as recording results of projects and tests and presenting them, is very beneficial. As we operate on the global stage, your English skills, both written and verbal, must be great. For non-Swedish applicants, Swedish is not an initial requirement, but, long-term, you will be expected to develop your Swedish skill to a level where you can communicate in Swedish during meetings.
We place great value on your personal qualities in this recruitment. You are curious and enjoy experimenting and testing new ideas. Also, by having a detail-oriented and structured character, you are able to keep records of accurate observations, and you have the patience to undertake tests and technical experiments. With your great communication skills, especially in writing, you easily create reports and other documents.
We actively work to create a workplace that is characterized by diversity and inclusion.
