Hitachi ABB Power Grids is a pioneering technology leader that is helping to increase access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. We help to power your home, keep the factories running, and our hospitals and schools open. Come as you are and prepare to get better as you learn from others. Bring your passion, bring your energy, and plug into a team that appreciates a simple truth: Diversity + Collaboration = Great Innovation
Would you like to take part in the development of future technology needed to support the next wave of the energy revolution? We are looking for two new R&D engineers to help develop our FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems) products for active control of the future power grid.
Globally, large changes are taking place, as the amount of renewables in the power generation mix increases rapidly. This places new demands on the stability and resilience of the transmission grid. We at Hitachi Power Grids are further developing our existing FACTS products with energy storage to supply both active and reactive power, while also developing the control functionality of our systems. This will contribute to supporting the grid with ancillary services to fulfil new grid-code requirements on our product. This is a rapidly developing area and we need to strengthen our team with new engineers.
We work in an agile development framework using the SAFE (Scaled Agile Framework) methodology, and you will be a member of an agile product development team. In this respect we put a high value on teamwork and transparency in both planning and execution of our R&D work.
Your responsibilities
Work within an agile, product development team designing and testing components for a new generation of FACTS systems
Design concepts and systems for DC protection and control of energy storage modules (Supercapacitors and batteries)
Carry out power system simulations for integration of our products in the power grid
Work with Electromagnetic Compatibility studies and specification of equipment to ensure fulfillment of EMC requirements
Develop guidelines for testing prototypes for energy storage systems
Developing tools in Matlab to help our engineering teams in design work for tenders
Contribute to technical aspects of strategy for the new product going forward

Your background
A couple of years of experience working with electric power transmission systems
Experience of at least one of the following: high-power and high-voltage applications of energy storage, DC protection of energy storage systems, EMC work related to high-power equipment
An engineering or science degree in a relevant area related to electric power engineering
You are a team player and have preferably experience of SAFE (Scaled Agile Framework) or SCRUM product development
You find pleasure learning about technology and are interested in becoming a technical expert in the area
You enjoy working in an international setting where you will get to exchange knowledge with people from several different countries
You have what it takes to plan and organize your own work
Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required, knowledge of Swedish is also an advantage but not mandatory
