Under the general supervision of the Political Counsellor, the incumbent is responsible for promoting Canadian interests through Public Affairs initiatives which involves reaching the best-targeted and most influential audiences possible. This includes: (1) developing and implementing advocacy initiatives in support of Canadian priority objectives; (2) managing cultural initiatives involving Canadian artists; (3) facilitating appropriate media relations related to Embassy programs; (4) coordinating communications activities; and (5) assisting the Ambassador in related outreach activities. Perform other duties as required.
Area of selection/Eligibility
This position is open to individuals who are eligible to work in Sweden, who meet all of the essential requirements stated below, and whose applications are received by the closing date. The Embassy of Canada does not reimburse any travel costs to and from interview nor does it reimburse any relocation costs. The Embassy of Canada does not directly or indirectly sponsor work permit applications on behalf of candidates.

Essential Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate in their application how they meet the essential qualifications or these criteria below.
Education:
• Bachelor's degree from a recognized university
Language:
• Fluency in English and Swedish (oral and written)
Experience:
• A minimum of 5 years' recent* experience in communications, public affairs, cultural and/or media relations;
• Experience in project management, organizing events and budget management;
• Experience in diplomacy and networking competencies;
Recent* is defined as within the last 7 years.
Rated Requirements:
Candidates must also meet the Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. These may be assessed at a later stage through any of the following: written exam, interview, role-play, practical test, presentation and/or psychometric assessment.
Knowledge:
• Good knowledge of computer skills
Abilities/Competencies:
• Effective interactive communication both orally and writing;
• Effective team work
• Ability to build and sustain networks
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with tight deadlines.
Personal Suitability:
• Dependability
• Interpersonal relationships- Must be client focussed and have the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels and of different cultures;
• Must work well under pressure; be flexible, able to establish work priorities and complete duties quickly and thoroughly;
• Must be able to demonstrate initiative and discretion.
Asset Qualifications
Candidates may also be screened against the Asset Qualifications. Preference may be given to candidates who meet these asset qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.
• Master's degree in Public affairs, International Affairs, or Communications
• Experience working for an embassy
• Fluency in French
Operational Requirements
• Overtime may be required
• Attendance of events outside normal working hours may be required
• Travel, sometimes at short notice may be required
Conditions of Employment
• Ability to obtain and retain an Enhanced Reliability security clearance
• Maintain legal status to work and reside in Stockholm
