Product Builds is a global organization providing all Volvo Group Trucks Brands and Business Areas with the prototypes needed for the assessment of new products and technologies. Our team in Gothenburg focuses on rigs and tests performed in Sweden (everything from single components, gear boxes or engines, to complete vehicles).
The Prototype Buyer works on the verge of new manufacturing technologies and brings supplier innovation into the Volvo Group.
Your mission is to source and order components from specific prototype suppliers with particular focus on lead-time, cost, quality and features for each test purpose. You will work with a variety of suppliers, large and small companies and a broad selection of manufacturing methods, from additive manufacturing to rapid casting, and who knows what you will be purchasing in the future.
The Prototype Buyer is involved in the early stage of all type of projects: from improving fuel efficiency or testing self-driving trucks, to increasing security or reducing weight, or simply designing the new look of the future Volvo trucks. You will be working closely with development engineers, design studios and workshops to find the best solution available for their verification needs.
Responsibilities
• Lead, negotiate and execute all sourcing activities to the defined project timelines
• Issue request for quotations and release orders to the chosen suppliers
• Continuously evaluate the performance of the current supplier base, map and identify new suppliers and establish and maintain relationships with key suppliers
• Monitor technology developments and spread the knowledge in the organization
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders in order to get the best possible results for Volvo Group in terms of Cost, Quality, Delivery and Features
Requirements
• University degree in Purchasing, Business, Engineering or related field
• 5 years' work experience
• Good communication skills and positive mind-set
• Technical and scientific interests: you are curious about the nature, function and utility of things
• Knowledge of, or interest in the automotive industry is a plus
• Negotiation skills and drive to look for cost improvement opportunities
• Strong interest in developing relationships with stakeholders
• Good computer skills (MS Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint)
• Excellent spoken and written English
• Spoken and written Swedish is considered an advantage
