The research at the Division of Atomic Physics is centered around different applications of optics and lasers, including materials science, attosecond physics, high-intensity laser-plasma physics, quantum information, and biophotonics.

The Division operates the Lund High-Power Laser Facility, including a state-of-the-art 10 Hz multi-terawatt laser system. It is a central part of a major interdisciplinary research environment within the Lund University, the Lund Laser Centre, LLC. The division is also heavily involved in undergraduate education, especially within the "Photonics programme".

At the Lund Attosecond Science Center, research is performed on the generation and application of extremely short light pulses, in the attosecond and extreme ultraviolet range. The activities span from ultrafast optics with advanced laser systems e.g. based on optical parametric chirped pulse amplification to attosecond engineering, with design and optimization of attosecond sources (with variable pulse structure, central photon energy, repetition rate and pulse energy) and utilization for various applications in atomic/molecular and condensed matter physics.

Subject description
The project consists in theoretical studies of high-order harmonic and attosecond pulse generation and applications. In particular high-order harmonic generation using elliptically polarized laser fields will be studied by solving the time dependent Schrödinger equation both numerically and within the strong field approximation, but also using classical Monte Carlo simulations. The project aims to explain previous experimental results, but also to guide new ones.

Work duties
The job assignments will include running and improving existing codes, but also some teaching. Some of the projects will involve collaboration with a group at LSU in USA.

Qualifications

- Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
- A good knowledge of ultrafast optics and laser physics is required.
- Practical experience working with solving the time dependent Schrödinger equation both numerically and within the strong field approximation is required.
- Experience in working with GPU programming is required.
- Previous experience in working with high-order harmonic generation and attosecond pulses is a very strong advantage.

Other merits

- Experience with attosecond pulses and high-order harmonic generation.
- Skills in optics and XUV spectroscopy.
- Other experiences e.g. in programming, automation and/or mechanical design

We will place great emphasis on personal suitability. Consideration will also be given to ability to work independent and how the applicant's experience and skills complement and strengthen the administrative work within the unit/department, as well as contribute to its future development.

Terms of employment
This is a full time, fixed-term employment from 2017-03-01 to 2017-06-30.

Instructions on how to apply
Applications should include a cover letter stating the reasons why you are interested in the position and in what way the employment corresponds to your qualifications. The application should also contain a CV, degree certificate or equivalent, and other documents you wish to be considered (grade transcripts, contact information for your references, letters of recommendation, etc.).

Lunds universitet välkomnar sökande med olika bakgrund och erfarenheter. Vi ser jämställdhet och mångfald som en styrka och tillgång.
