The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) is an independent international institute dedicated to research on conflict, armaments, arms control and disarmament. SIPRI provides data, analysis and recommendations, based on open sources, to policymakers, researchers, media and the interested public. The Institute also offers specialised training for government officials, early-career professionals and students.
About the Role
As Project & Events Coordinator, you will play a key role in supporting SIPRI's work on non-proliferation and disarmament, both within the EU Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Consortium (EUNPDC) and the wider Armament & Disarmament (A&D) Research Programme.
You will support the EUNPDC's general management and SIPRI-led activities, including coordination of the European Network of Independent Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Think Tanks. You will work closely with the Senior Project Manager and Chair of the EUNPDC, the Financial Manager, and colleagues involved in activities such as the policy paper series, the proliferation awareness course and ad hoc seminars.
You will also manage the logistical and administrative aspects of research workshops and other A&D events, including the yearly Armament & Disarmament Summer School. You will ensure that activities and events are professionally delivered, align with SIPRI's research and outreach goals, and provide a high-quality experience for participants and partners.
This is a varied and hands-on coordination role for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of research, policy and events, and who thrives in an international, fast-paced environment.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a flexible, well-organised and socially adept colleague who enjoys coordinating complex processes, working with many stakeholders, and ensuring that projects and events run smoothly from start to finish. You are comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, able to manage multiple tasks under time pressure while maintaining a calm and professional demeanour. You communicate clearly and diplomatically, and you have a genuine interest in SIPRI's research areas and the EU non-proliferation and disarmament agenda.
Qualifications and Experience
• University degree in international relations, political science or another relevant field.
• Experience in coordination or administrative support, ideally in an international policy, academic or research environment.
• Experience with organising or supporting events such as workshops, conferences, seminars or training courses.
• Experience contributing to or coordinating written materials, such as project reports or meeting summaries.
• Familiarity with SIPRI's research areas, particularly non-proliferation, arms control and disarmament.
Skills and Competencies
• Fluency in English, with excellent written and oral communication skills; proficiency in Swedish or other official EU languages is an advantage.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise and deliver quality work under pressure.
• Proven ability to manage logistical and administrative tasks with high attention to detail.
• Comfortable liaising with a variety of stakeholders, including EU institutions, partner organisations and network members.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
• Positive, cooperative and diplomatic attitude, with flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
Additional Information
• The position is offered as a fixed-term appointment for an initial period of one year, based at SIPRI's headquarters in Solna, Sweden.
• For this position, SIPRI is only able to consider candidates who already hold the right to live and work in Sweden. Visa sponsorship and relocation assistance are not available.
• Some international travel may be required.
• Salary will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications and experience, in accordance with SIPRI's salary framework.
Interested candidates should submit a one-page cover letter and a CV in English.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and the recruitment process may be closed as soon as a suitable candidate is identified. Early applications are therefore strongly encouraged.
For enquiries about the position, please contact Dr. Sibylle Bauer, Director of Studies, Armament and Disarmament, and Chair of the EU Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Consortium, SIPRI.
We kindly ask that recruitment agencies or consultants do not contact us, as we are managing this recruitment internally.
Join us in shaping a more peaceful and secure world through evidence-based research, policy engagement and high-quality events.
SIPRI is committed to diversity and equal opportunity in employment. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, religion, or background.
