KI Biobank
KI Biobank is a core facility hosted by MEB.
Its purpose is to provide professional sample and data services to medical research that improves healthcare and public health. The facility typically serves defined research studies which collect and use samples and sample-related data. With over ten years of growing service the biobank now holds samples and related data from half a million Swedish residents.
The lab unit of KI Biobank operates and develops the sample services we offer to medical research. It is vital that its work maintains high quality and ethical standards and keeps pace with the rapidly evolving technology opportunities and needs of medical research.
We currently have three important new developments underway to improve our services and operation, and now seek an experienced lab scientist to help us complete these over the next six months.
Duties
The role holder will take responsibility for three specific projects as follows:
• development of high throughput services for extracting RNA from whole blood and DNA from dried blood spots and some other sources
• supporting the genotyping needs of a new major biobank study
• implementation of a new automated storage and retrieval system
Each of these projects requires use of advanced lab automation and our extensive lab data system.
The role reports to the unit head of the biobank lab. The role-holder will also be required to collaborate actively with the research groups for which the new services are being developed, while the third project requires extensive interaction with the automation supplier.
Qualifications
We expect you to possess the following:
• A BSc/MSc degree in life sciences, preferably with molecular biology or biochemistry bias;
• At least 7 years' experience of practical laboratory work in molecular biology, including the use of advanced automation and lab IT systems for instrument control, data capture and interpretation;
