MAX IV is a national large-scale research laboratory providing scientists from Sweden and the rest of the world with instruments for research in areas such as materials science, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually. 200 people are currently employed at the MAX IV Laboratory.



MAX IV Laboratory is offering a short term position (three months) for a research engineer.

The engineer's task will be to develop an advanced model of an X-ray two-crystal monochromator with the help of ray-tracing and finite element analysis (FEA). The former shall be used to model X-ray radiation transfer and reflection from nearly perfect crystals and the latter for including effects of heat load by absorption of radiation and the consequent deformation of the reflecting crystals.

The candidate should have a bachelor or master degree in Physics. He / she should have practical experience with Comsol and the following Comsol modules: Structural Mechanics, Heat Transfer and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Furthermore, the candidate should have a basic understanding of X-ray and Synchrotron Physics in general, and X-ray ray-tracing in particular. Practical experience with the ray-tracing code Shadow3 is seen as a benefit.

This is a temporary 3 months employment.
