The Department of Public Health Sciences performs research, teaching and counseling within the field of Public Health. The international profile is strong. The Department comprises six divisions with in total around 270 employees, and around 130 research students.
A project titled "Evidence for Policy and Implementation - intensifying efforts to achieve health-related MDGs in four countries with developing economies" (EPI-4) has started this year with support from Sida. EPI-4 is designed to identify the most disadvantaged populations in India, China, Indonesia and Vietnam and to highlight their needs and relevant research that could meet these needs in order to reach the health-related Millennium Development Goals (Nos. 4, 5, 6). The project is a collaborative effort between four Swedish universities and four institutes and leading universities in India, China, Indonesia and Vietnam. The Division of Global Health (IHCAR) is the leading contractor and investigator.
The project coordinator will be responsible for leading all of the scientific aspects of EPI-4, including designing a theoretical framework and roadmap, overseeing secondary data analyses, organizing scientific meetings, and writing papers for publication. Administrative and budgetary responsibilities are not included. The work will comprise regular, extensive contacts with the universities and institutes involved, in Sweden and abroad, including travels to the four countries and within Sweden.
The applicant should:
• Be at least of post-doctoral level, with a PhD in public health or other health-related subject;
• Have led research efforts in public health in low- and middle-income country environments;
• Have led or been actively involved in international collaboration efforts in research or research to policy;
• Have scientific experience in fields related to the Millennium Development Goals no. 4, 5 and 6 and the challenges facing their attainment;
• Have high quality track record in publishing in peer-reviewed journals;
• Have a good understanding of social determinants of health;
• Be able to demonstrate excellent project management skills;
• Have excellent spoken and written English.
Added merits are:
• To have extensive experience in organizing and leading conferences and working meetings
