Project Associate - Stockholm Based
To work in the context of the Somali segments of an EU-funded project called E-Platform: Telling the real story - Information campaign targeting Somali and Eritrean migrants.
This information campaign will mainly reach out to Eritrean and Somali refugees in countries of transit and first asylum in Africa, with a view to inform them about the full scope of the perils and difficulties related to irregular onward movements to Europe and about other possibilities to find protection and durable solutions. Ultimately it should enable concerned people to take an informed decision about their plans and about possible onward movements. This campaign will not only rely on traditional media (television, radio and printed material), but will also make extensive use of new, web-based media (e-platform and social media).
The Project Associate, will be based in Stockholm, Sweden
The Project Associate will be responsible for the following:
• Monitor social media platforms documenting conversations and content shared across social networks that would be relevant to the project
• Transcribing videos, audio and written testimonies from the Somali languages to English meaning-to-meaning to text format and translating English narratives into Somali
• Assist in the mobilization of the Somali Diaspora
• Monitor the E-PLatform social media content and interactions especially those made in Somali
• Assist in the development of messages for the awareness campaign in Ethiopia, Sudan and Somali
• Conduct focus group discussions in Somalia and assist rolling out the awareness campaign in Somalia, Ethiopia and Sudan.
• The project Associate will assist in the design of a facilitatiors manual that would be used in the dissemination of the awareness campaign
Competencies:
• Higher education
• 2 years of relevant experience
• Basic knowledge of UNHCR's mandate
• General familiarity with the regional mixed migration dynamics in the Mediterranean region.
• Experience with social media and monitoring
• Good written and oral communication
• Fluency in Somali and English are essential
• Experience in transcribing raw video and audio footage
Duty station:
The Project Associate will be based in Stockholm therefore should have a Swedish work permit.
Contract:
The Consultancy contract will be issued by UNOPS, starting March 2016 up to 31 December 2016.
