SIPRI is an international research institute conducting research on questions of conflict and cooperation of importance for international peace and security. English is the working language at the institute.

SIPRI invites applications for the temporary position of a full-time Project Assistant to the projects on arms production, arms trade and military expenditure. These projects administer databases with a global coverage. They therefore maintain large collections of data and information, stored electronically. The tasks of the Project Assistant are related primarily to these information systems and files. The main tasks:
The positions' main tasks involve:
• Updating and maintaining the projects' electronic research archive. This includes ensuring the quality of submitted items, adding items, indexing, and when necessary, scanning submitted items.

Other tasks include:
• Responding to external requests for SIPRI data.
• Sending out SIPRI requests for data from governments.
• Assisting in the preparation of reports for the SIPRI Yearbook.
• Assisting in updating the project websites.

Required skills and experience:
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Organizational skills.
• Computer literacy, e.g. word, excel, html.
• Experience of maintaining and updating websites.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in an international environment.
• Education to BA level or equivalent knowledge and experience.

Desirable skills and experience:
• Working knowledge of other languages.
• An interest in issues of international peace and security.
• Experience of working with electronic archives.
• Experience of working with economic data.
• Experience of searching for and evaluating information on the Internet.
• Experience of working with Macintosh computers.
