The Department of Forestry and Wood Technology's area of research encompasses silviculture with the link to wood quality, forest products and the value chain to the market. The field is thematic and anchored to different research topics along the whole value chain. The connection between research and education is well developed in the forestry and the wood products value chains and new areas of interest for the future are other services and values the forest can provide our society.

Linked to the Department of Forestry and Wood Technology, two bachelor and two masters programs are offered to the students.

The Department of Forestry and Wood Technology, together with the sections for Building Technology, Bioenergy Technology and the Built Environment, represents a coherent thematic sphere and long-term stability with a critical mass of competences, which ensures research at high level. This themetic sphere consists of ca 80 employees, including 20 professors.

We want to employ a Professor in Production Economics with a special focus in forest industrial systems. Placement city is Växjö, Sweden and the scope of appointment is 100% permanent position.

Job description:
This position involves research towards the production economics of large but also small and medium-sized forest industry companies in a broader perspective. Moreover, it includes teaching and development of courses within both bachelor and master programs. Particular emphasis is placed on an integrated outlook covering the economic aspects of the whole production chain from forest raw material to market, including the recovery of the refined forest-based materials and products as well as the demand and supply of forest products. The central areas of research are the optimal use of round-wood, as well as optimal use of forest raw material from a production economy standpoint within the refinement industry.

The general starting-points for both research and teaching are the requirement of practical applicability within the forest industry as well as a cooperation and interaction with the forest industry in southern Sweden.

Requirements
Qualified to be appointed professor is a person who has demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical skills. (HF 4, chapter, section 3)

In order to be appointed professor - in accordance with the appointment procedures at Linnaeus University - a person must have demonstrated scientific skills through independent, active research in accordance with current national standards, both qualitatively and quantitatively and at a level considerably exceeding that required of an associate professor.

The requirements for scientific skills also comprise requirements for demonstrated skills regarding planning and management of research. This includes management of research work in which other researchers who have defended their theses take part, as well as supervision of doctoral students.

This position requires ability to achieve financing for research activities including cooperation with the forest sector industry.

Pedagogical skills should have been demonstrated through teaching on first-, second- and third-cycle levels. This includes planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching as well as supervision and examination.

Assessment grounds
As assessment grounds for appointment as professor, the level of skills considered a requirement to be qualified for the appointment is to apply. The trial of the pedagogical skills is to be given as great importance as the trial of the scientific skills.

Special weight is given to the applicant's ability to initiate and lead research of high academic standard.

In the selection procedure a qualitative assessment of the candidates full merits are made by two or more external experts to help select the most qualified applicant.
