Metabolic and cardiovascular research has a long and successful tradition at the University of
Gothenburg in Sweden. The Department of Molecular and Clinical Medicine, at the Institute of
Medicine, focuses on cardiovascular disease, obesity and diabetes and combines clinical,
experimental and epidemiological research. The department includes the Center of Excellence
Sahlgrenska Center for Cardiovascular and Metabolic Research (www.cmr.gu.se), and several
prominent research laboratories such as the Wallenberg Laboratory for Cardivascular and
Metabolic Research (www.wlab.gu.se), the Lundberg Laboratory for Diabetes Research
(www.medicine.gu.se/mkm/lundberglab) and Swedish Obese Subjects Study
(www.wlab.gu.se/carlsson). Research is conducted in close collaboration with the Sahlgrenska
University Hospital that provides emergency and basic care for the region and its 700 000
inhabitants, and highly specialized care for west Sweden, with 1.7 million inhabitants.

Molecular Medicine
Specific subject description
The position is focused on metabolic biology, from molecular and cellular biology to
translational studies. This includes molecular mechanisms underlying physiology and
homeostasis in he lth and disease. A clear goal must be to link the studies to human
pathophysiology of aging or chronic diseases and conditions, such as obesity, diabetes or
cardiovascular disease.
Job assignments
The succesful candidate is expected to secure research funding from external agencies and to
build a nationall and internationally competative long-term research program. The holder of the
appointment shall primarily conduct research, but is also expected to participate in teaching on
the undergraduate, advanced and research levels at University of Gothenburg.

Scientific and pedagogic excellence.
Assessment
Candidates will primarily be evaluated based on their scientific proficiency, followed by
educational and administrative skills. Scientific proficiency shall be demonstrated with research
that has resulted in high-quality publications, as well as with the ability to attract research grants.
International research experience and ability to build a vigorous long-term research program of
innovative research are considered particulary meritorious.
