Professor in Genetics (genetik)
A position as faculty professor in genetics is available at the Department of Plant Biology and Forest Genetics, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala, Sweden.
Subject area
The subject area of genetics includes studies of plant population genetics or quantitative genetics with relevance for agriculture or forestry. The capacity to utilize the large quantity of molecular data is of particular relevance for the subject area.
Duties
The appointed Professor is expected to lead and develop a strong, internationally-recognized and externally-funded research program in genetics. She/he will contribute to the implementation and further development of the departmental mission addressing research on plant development, diversity and defence, and is expected to effectively collaborate with other research groups at the department, the BioCenter or with other clusters on campus that work within these areas. Research should focus on fundamental questions and additional applications such as pre-breeding are encouraged. The position requires dedication to the supervision of PhD students as well as to teaching classical, molecular and quantitative genetics or related topics at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Eligibility
A person shall be eligible for appointment to a position as a professor if she/he has demonstrated scientific and teaching proficiency.
Assessment criteria
Assessment criteria when appointing a professor are the extent of the candidate’s scientific and pedagogic skills of relevance to the subject contents of the appointment ant to the assignments of the appointment. In addition, the degree of administrative and other skills of importance to the subject contents for the appointment and the duties included in the appointment shall also be taken into account. In addition, the degree of skills in developing and leading activities and staff at the university and the ability to collaborate with the outside community and convey information on research and development work shall also be taken into account. In the appointment, importance shall be attached primarily to scientific and pedagogic skills of which importance shall particularly be attached to scientific skills.
The scientific and pedagogic documentation submitted in support of the application shall be indicated in the application, and one copy of each document shall be made available to the Registrar at the time of application. At most 10 scientific publications at most 10 pedagogic publications, including popularized versions, should be submitted in support of the application. In addition a complete list of publications shall be supplied; the publications submitted with the application must be indicated. At SLU, salaries are determined by way of individual negotiations and rank will be commensurate with prior experience and performance.
When all three expert reviewers have been appointed, the applicant(s) will be informed to send copies of the documentation listed in the application to each one of the reviewers.
