The program has agreed on the following requirements expected of, and duties attached to, the holder of the appointment: The field of Biomedical Engineering is a technical discipline for solving medical problems. Technical, Physics and Mathematics methods are used to describe the human physiological function and to develop new methods for diagnostics, monitoring and therapy within Health Care. Biomedical Engineering is characterized by the application of other technical scientific fields. Several other scientific fields such as automatic control, Signal processing, Robotics, Mechanics, Material science, Biotechnology and Image processing, Computer graphics and human-machine interaction mention in their strategies biomedical engineering applications as an emerging field. Biomedical engineering is, however, an established scientific field since decades. It is cross-disciplinary by covering both technology and medicine. Biomedical engineering has its main connection to technology but the field demands relevant knowledge within medicine. This specifically characterizes biomedical engineering. Other technical fields related to biomedical engineering, but lacking the medical focus, should not be classified as biomedical engineering. Similarly, medical fields without technical depth do not belong to biomedical engineering.
