The Professorship in Applied Helath Economics will be placed at the faculty's joint Centre for
Applied Biostatistics and will contribute to a broadening of its operations to also include applied
health ecnonomics.

Applied Health Economics with specialization in Register Research
Specific subject description
At health science studies, such as drug trials and various epidemiological studies, the
socioeconomic aspects are essential. It may for example involve comparing the costs of a new
drug with the reduction in costs that the drug enables within workplaces and the social insurance
system. In health economic research the use of various national and regional registers is of great
importance. It may mean that utilize both national quality and regional VEGA database. The rich
access to such micro data, data om individual level, enables a methodological development since
traditionally mainly macro data is used in health economic research.
Job assignments
Within the position research at a high international level should be conducted as well as teaching,
mainly at advanced and postgraduate levels. To design, implement and evaluate empirical
economic studies are central. Primarily, research will be included in the register-based studies
carried out at the Sahlgrenska Academy, often in collaboration with Region Västra Götaland and
especially Register Centre West.

Assessment
Candidates will primarily be evaluated based on their scientific proficiency, followed by
educational skills. Ability to attract external research funding, ability to cooperate and ability to
interact with the community is meritorious.
