Employment profile
The Faculty of Humanities and Medias is seeking to appoint a full-time professor in English, specializing in Linguistics. With its 25 employees and around 400 full-time students every year, the English subject plays a leading role in Högskolan Dalarna?s strong languages section, and is central in a planned application for two-year MA rights. The post is full-time with tenure, starting as soon as possible with the agreement of all parties. The post is based in Falun.
Duties
The duties of the successful applicant involve responsibility for building up a creative research environment in linguistics in the English subject through planning and leading research and research seminars, as well as initiating new research projects and the development of quality through applying for external research funding. Teaching and essay supervision at both undergraduate and Masters level are also included. Time will be available for the successful applicant to conduct their own research. Certain administrative and leadership duties can also be included.
An important part of the post is the development of research in linguistics related to Högskolan Dalarna?s strategic research profile area Culture, identity and representation. In the profile area there are a number of research groups based in subjects within the humanities, languages, and media and communication science. The Faculty has the goal of developing a research environment that comprises not only English linguistics but also the linguistics of other languages within the Faculty.
A large part of teaching is net-based, and Högskolan Dalarna?s vision is to have a leading role in Next Generation Learning. Since close cooperation among the subject?s teachers is the norm, it is assumed that the successful applicant will work regularly at Campus Falun during term time.
Formal requirements
Both scientific and pedagogical skills are formal requirements to be employed as a professor (Higher Education Ordinances chap 4, 5§). Training in teaching at university level or the equivalent is required. Pedagogical skill is rated as highly as the other formal requirements. An applicant who does not fulfill the above requirements can be seen to have met them if the specific details of the post allow it or if there are special circumstances.
