The Service Research Center (CTF) has a research staff of fifty-five, of which three are professors and over twenty are doctoral students. Research is focused on three areas: organization and management of service enterprises, service innovation and customer-oriented service. Research is pursued in subareas such as quality development, work environment, market and service orientation, relation marketing, service development and organizational change. CTF's research is relevant to private as well as public organizations (see:
http://www.ctf.kau.se/)Duties
The successful candidate has a qualification profile that meets the requirements of research in the product and service development field with an emphasis on the retail context, especially consumer behavior. The professorship is designed to strengthen the regional initiative of the cluster TPA (The Packaging Arena:
http://www.packagingarena.com/) .
Professors at Karlstad University are also expected to participate in education at all university levels. The post involves responsibility for the development of curricula for and participation in teaching within product and service development, especially retail from a service perspective. This area is taught within the frame of the Karlstad Business School at the university.
CTF funds up to 50% for as long as the professor is actively pursuing research that meets the assessment grounds described below. The remaining part is to be financed by teaching involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate courses or by the external research grants the professor may attract.
Qualification requirements and assessment grounds
A person who has shown both academic and teaching skills is qualified for appointment as a professor. As much attention will be given to the assessment of teaching skills as to academic skills. The position requires excellent cooperative skills and ability to function well in academic and business contexts.
Special consideration will be given to qualifications in the customer-oriented development area. In addition, the successful applicant needs qualifications in quantitative research to support TPA in their development. Special consideration will also be given to applicants' ability to cooperate with business and public agencies, and ability to attract external research funding. CTF and Karlstad University have since long given priority to internationally viable research and expect employees to publish in internationally renowned journals regularly. Applicants are also expected to have well-established international networks to support and develop research projects.
We would welcome a professor with an interest in and talent for leading research activities and contributing to the development of CTF, probably the largest research environment in the service research sector with a strong international network. The professor should have a background in either Business Administration or Psychology.
