Axel Arigato currently has 6 stores, including London, Copenhagen, Stockholm and Gothenburg with more pending. Expanding from 2 people to now hiring over 65 members of staff in 4 years, Axel Arigato also operates a subsidiary office in London.

RESPONSIBILITY

This position holds the responsibility between design and production and requires excellent organizational and project management skills as well as a strong passion for sneakers

The Footwear Product Developer is responsible for our products to overachieve our design requirements and to be sampled according to the seasonal schedule.

The Footwear Product Developer works hand in hand with the design team, technical team and production team and owns the product specs data and sampling activities.

The Footwear Product Developer needs to constantly negotiate with our production partners to achieve margin requirements, quality level and lead time for the collection. There should also be a healthy mix in terms of production per factory with a second alternative if a factory cannot deliver on our terms.

This requires daily contact with factories and regular visits.

JOB ASSIGNMENT

Product development

• Responsibility and ownership of the product creation process from design hand-over to final sample in partnership with Footwear Technicians, with an emphasis on quality product development and timely completion of all tasks in accordance with the seasonal calendar.
• Establish and maintain strong working relationships with Designers, Technicians, Quality Control, Operations and suppliers in order to ensure product success.
• Owns the article creation process across all systems.
• Owns the material development and research process
• Recommends design enhancements, construction and material options geared at elevating our brands and hitting financial requirements.
• Monitors and reviews all prototypes and market samples to ensure faithful execution to spec as well as meets materials, quality, execution, and construction standards. Provides feedback and information to factories to make necessary changes clear and organized. Create and update specs.
• Reviews and communicates style and material minimums, material costs, and lead times with design, production, and merchandising.
• Negotiates pre-production costs based on design, merchandising and financial plans
• Assortment planning together with designer and merchandiser (product mix, launch month and price).
• Track sample development and the production and lead time of the same.

Sourcing

• Sources alternate manufacturers and material suppliers to provide options in materials, products, and techniques.
• Work closely with the designers to ensure timely turnover of development, prototypes, and market samples and placement of final production.
• Current working knowledge of materials market and manufacturing landscape. Attends trade shows and interacts with material suppliers.
• Maintaining relationships with existing suppliers and sourcing new suppliers for future products
• Meeting suppliers and negotiating terms of contract
• Maintaining gross profit goals by working with sourcing partners to plan and control item costs.

Product integrity

• Aims to instill quality in the product from material selection thru final production.

• Reviews all components with an eye for quality and durability.

• Drive footwear sustainability projects implementation

Analyze/reports

• Analyzing consumer buying patterns and predicting future trends to support the design team in their creative process
• Understand the customer
• Training and mentoring of junior staff.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

5 years' experience in the footwear industry

Attention to detail

Experience with shoe design and construction is a must

Excellent English communication skills. Portuguese is a plus

This position is located in our Headquarter in Gothenburg, Sweden - applications in english
