EnginZyme is a start-up that is building a ground-breaking, sustainable platform for producing the millions of tonnes of chemical building blocks on which our world depends, and in the process transforming a $5 trillion industry. This we accomplish through replacing traditional synthetic and fossil-fuel-based processes with enzymes - nature's most efficient catalysts. Founded in Sweden in 2014, we are funded by well-known investors and have been recognised as a Technology Pioneer company by the World Economic Forum. Having just raised EUR22M in Series B funding, we are now moving towards large-scale commercialisation of our technology.
You will join our Process Engineering Team and be a key contributor to our process development and scale-up activities. You'll be part of a tight-knit and quick-moving R&D group aiming to push enzymes to their limits, and we want to invite you to come along for the journey.
What you'll do
Process development and scale-up are crucial to our mission. Your challenge will be to drive the development of biocatalytic processes to bring novel chemicals to market. Key tasks and responsibilities in this role are:
Identify, propose, and assess the feasibility of various downstream unit operations for purification and isolation of target molecules through lab- and pilot-scale experimentation
Scout robust downstream platform technologies to target product specification requirements considering technical viability and techno-economics
Execute process development studies to develop, troubleshoot, optimise, scale-up, and transfer EnginZyme's technology platform
Develop detailed engineering models to describe separation processes
Identify and collaborate with outside technology experts to streamline development of EnginZyme's process technology
Contribute to the buildout of new experimental facilities to enable fast and robust testing of downstream unit operations

The position is based in Stockholm and may include some traveling for development and training purposes.
Who you are
We're looking for someone at the top of their abilities and who would thrive in a fast-paced R&D environment.
You have a strong technical background with a master's degree or PhD in Chemistry, Bio-/Chemical Engineering or Biotechnology
You have 2+ years of documented industrial experience in process development and scale-up of downstream processing including at least two of the following technologies: extraction, chromatography (e.g., IX, SMB), filtration (e.g., AC, UF, NF), and/or crystallisation
You feel comfortable working in a laboratory environment, and you have the scientific background to design, execute, and report experimental studies
You can demonstrate experience building, operating, and troubleshooting laboratory rigs and/or pilot plants
Industrial experience in the food, cosmetic or pharmaceutical industry is highly advantageous.

In terms of personal qualities, we're looking for someone who is passionate about their work, who is dependable and who wants to push boundaries. And, not least, who is also a friendly, cooperative person.

What we can offer you
The opportunity to be part of something big and important
Getting to advance state-of-the-art technology
To work with world-class researchers on problems at the frontier of the field
Competitive salary and equity in the company
Start-up mentality. No red tape, lots of responsibility and ownership
A friendly, multi-cultural, tight-knit group employing 50+ people from more than 20 different countries
An environment where you're free - and expected - to continuously learn and grow
We offer relocation support and help you get set up in one of the best cities in the world to live and work. But don't take our word - instead, just listen to this guy for five minutes
