The department employs around 140 statisticians and 110 programmers, located at sites in Wilmington DE, USA, Manchester (Alderley) UK, Gothenburg (Mölndal) and Stockholm (Södertälje) Sweden. The Manchester and Gothenburg sites cover the entire range of drug development research, whereas the Stockholm site is focused primarily on early phase research and the Wilmington site on late phase.
We are now recruiting to fill several permanent positions across the four sites.
As statistician in AstraZeneca you may be involved at all stages of the drug development process. You will be an indispensable part of our multi-disciplinary teams and play an active role in driving the strategy for development of medicines that make a real difference to our patients across the world. As a statistician in clinical development you will provide statistical expertise in the design, planning, evaluation and interpretation of clinical studies and programs.
Depending on your experience and expertise we may offer a role suited to your particular skills. Senior candidates with a long experience in clinical research may be expected to contribute to strategic planning, act as expert in our contact with external providers, coach more junior staff and be involved in adapting and developing statistical methodology. That means we can offer the chance to be influential in drug development and the opportunity to gain experience on a range of challenging and exciting projects. You will occupy a vital and important position as you supply the statistical expertise that underpins our clinical programs.
AstraZeneca is currently making a significant effort in building the capability around modeling & simulation and real-world evidence (epidemiology), hence experience and expertise in these specific areas are of particular interest. The prime purpose is to use modeling to enhance the quantitative support for important decision-making in our drug projects, and to provide the real-world evidence to verify that our new medicines bring valuable benefits to patients. A successful candidate with a background in either of these areas may play an essential part in shaping the company's future statistical efforts in modeling or real-world evidence.
These positions require strong technical skills, qualified to at least a master level, primarily in statistics, biostatistics, or mathematical statistics, but degrees in other relevant subjects, e.g. bioinformatics or epidemiology, may also be of interest. A post-graduate degree is an advantage. Experience from the pharmaceutical industry and drug development is desirable. As our work is conducted in cross-functional projects in an international environment, good collaboration, communication and influencing skills are necessary.
