Transmission Simulation and System Design is a group with 13 engineers, within department Driveline, Powertrain Engineering Sweden. The Sweden organization has the full worldwide Product platform responsibility for Heavy Duty powertrains, and of the installation in European Volvo Products. We participate in all stages of the product cycle - from advanced engineering to industrial development and maintenance.

Our group is responsible for transmission analyses within many different areas: FEA, 1D flow, 1D mechanical, CFD, as well as system layout and gear design. We perform simulations of drivelines to optimize durability, weight, efficiency and noise/vibration to support our HW design team and in order to bring our costumers world-class products.

Role description

You will as a Principal Simulation Engineer:
• Plan, lead and perform computer aided analyses within strength and durability
• Support project and design engineers in all stages of projects with technical solutions on a high complex level, and additionally contribute with engineering judgment based on physical reasoning
• Be involved in the design and analysis of new concepts and technologies at Driveline. SABR/ROMAX will be one of your main tools, but you will also use Matlab/Simulink, Abaqus and DesignLife
• Drive method and tool development, and collaborate with universities and external institutes
• Train and mentor less experienced colleagues
• Provide input to Product and System Roadmaps, as well as initiate and write Simulation Instructions

Who are you?

To be successful in your new role we believe you have the following skills/experience:
• Master of Science or higher in Mechanical Engineering with focus on Applied Mechanics or equivalent
• More than 15 years of experience of powertrain (preferably transmission) analysis from product development within automotive industry or research
• Several years of work experience within strength and durability, preferably in the tools ANSA, Abaqus, DesignLife, SABR/ROMAX, Matlab, Python
• Programming competence in Matlab is a strong merit
• Structured and analytical, with good communication skills
• Fluent in English, written and spoken
• C/CE driving license is seen as a merit

We think that you have a genuine technical interest, especially in mechanical systems as transmissions. As a person you are dedicated and quick-witted; you are eager to solve and understand difficult technical problems. You need to be able to work independently and also have an ability to work in cross functional teams. You need to have the capacity to explain your results and conclusions in a structured and pedagogical way to your colleagues and stakeholders. As an experienced CAE engineer, you are a natural go-to person.
