About the role
With its next generation of pure electric cars, Volvo Cars aims to offer customers a longer range, quicker charging and lower costs, and reach new milestones in automotive safety and sustainability.
To realise these ambitions, Volvo Cars is investing SEK 10 billion in its Torslanda manufacturing plant in Sweden in coming years, in preparation for the production of that next generation of fully electric cars.
As part of the investments, the company will introduce a number of new and more sustainable technologies and manufacturing processes in the plant. These include the introduction of mega casting of aluminium body parts, a new battery assembly plant and fully refurbished paint and final assembly shops.
The department
At Solution Vehicle Platform you will be a key contributor to future generations of full electric luxury cars from Volvo. Together with other engineers around the world, you will create and implement innovative, human-centric technology that makes life less complicated and more enjoyable for people. The Painted Body, PB department is responsible for the development of body structures and surface treatment systems globally. Development work is mainly conducted within the department and in close corporation with manufacturing, suppliers, and external partners.
Within PB we are working with strategies, pre-development, concept development, product design and operational development. We deliver new technical solutions, based upon our deep knowledge of materials, efficient structures and joining solutions for car bodies. We are now looking for competence within large castings design, both as Principal Engineer and Senior Design Engineers.
As a Principal/Senior Design Engineer you will join our development team and work with castings, materials development, design engineering and implementation as a shared service across the department. You will work in close collaboration with Technical Experts, with the Department engineering groups and together with Manufacturing and Procurement. Your network will be broad and stretch from Vehicle Platform, manufacturing to external contact with suppliers and research partners.
We are looking for
Someone flexible, with a strong interest in technical development and an innovative approach. We also expect that you will have strong networking and team working abilities, and with the skills to share knowledge and information.
We would like applicants to have an M.Sc. in a relevant area and proven knowledge in the field of casting concept development, strong experience in efficiently using CAD, as well as industrialisation, standards etc. It is meritorious if you have knowledge and experience in engineering and manufacturing areas coupled to the automotive industry.
We are offering you an exciting job with development opportunities, as responsible for design engineering assignments within large structural castings, with focus on Body-in-white components and specifications. The job also includes supporting PB and in various car programs with technical knowledge, results and educating others, and to identify needs and means for new technical solutions. Ultimately you will deliver best-in-class structural, NVH and crash performance from conceptualization to mass production.
