The role
As a Principal Engineer (Smart TV) at Viaplay, you will be contributing hands-on by engineering a scalable and resilient framework and platform in Javascript, as well as driving the overall technical vision and direction of our platform. In your role, you will ensure we develop the platform to meet the challenges of a continuously evolving product, developing strategies to battle complexity and ensuring efficiency. With your passion for technical leadership and willingness to act as role model for others, you will be an advocate for the developer community and a mentor to engineers within your domain.
You will join an autonomous metrics-driven team of experts to deliver engineering solutions aligned with long-term technical and product visions. We build our entire product in-house with apps in native and cross platform languages. We strongly believe that being on the edge of things when it comes to technology is crucial, always keeping ourselves up to date and constantly challenging the status quo.
What we're looking for
We are looking for a passionate and experienced developer with a genuine interest in software engineering and leadership. We believe that you are currently working in a role as Principal Engineer, Technical Lead, Technical Director or Technical Architect, and have experience of working with a variety of challenges requiring solving complex technical problems. You thrive in a high energy, team-driven environment where you are asked to have the strategic perspective to develop our business.
Successful candidates also meet the following requirements:
Extensive work-life experience developing customer focused web-based services, using JavaScript and preferably also React Native
Excellent technical leadership skills, setting direction and enacting change among peers
Experience working with a state-less and highly transactional end user product
Solid experience of working in an agile environment
Bonus requirements that will make you stand out from the rest:
Experience working with HTML-based Smart TV applications
Experience from the media- or streaming industry
Experience from knowledge-sharing patterns and practices in a product organization
Experience of integration strategies with 3rd parties and COTS products
