The Exhaust aftertreatment system (EATS) department within PE is responsible for the global platform development of exhaust aftertreatment systems for Volvo Group's different product around the world. We are about 80 passionated and highly skilled engineers on a mission to reduce the environmental impact of global transportation. Together with our colleagues around the world we take full system responsibility.
EATS Catalysts & Filters is one of the hardware groups in the EATS section. We have responsibility of the catalysts and particulate filter components in the EATS system. It is a global responsibility and is carried out in close cooperation with the global EATS teams around the world within Volvo as well with our suppliers. Included in the team is also the testing and verification of the EATS system to secure its performance. Our working environment is very creative with new technologies and inventions with a large network of suppliers and other external actors.
We are now looking for a Principal EATS Development Engineer to reinforce our emission control development. You will join a highly skilled team of development engineers with a global responsibility of the catalytic and filtration components (DOC, DPF, SCR, and ASC) leading both global and cross functional teams. Your main task is to propose and develop technical solutions to the future challenging emission requirements in close cooperation with our global suppliers. This require a PhD in catalysis combined with excellent collaboration skills, strong player mind-set and a pragmatic approach to find balanced solutions from a QDCF perspective. Daily interactions with both a global supplier base and global internal cross-functional teams is part of the job and creating a collaborative but challenging atmosphere is a key success factor. You will also need to be able to break down a project delivery according to Volvo processes and industry standards, knowing what needs to be done and guide other colleagues.
Main Responsibilities
Lead global cross-functional work within catalytic- and filtration-component
Development of new solutions and technologies for the exhaust aftertreatment system
Finding the best compromise between all requirements like performance, cost, packaging, weight etc.
Participate and support in product maintenance activities globally
Contact with external stakeholders (e.g. suppliers, universities etc.)
Follow up and guide the development work made by the suppliers
Plan, coordinate & perform releases of technical requirements & documentation according to Volvo standards
Team-leader for the development engineers in the group
Qualifications
Deep fundamental knowledge in automotive catalysis and/or filtration components
Profound knowledge in EATS design principles
Knowledge in engine and combustion theories
Knowledge and experience in understanding engine and EATS optimization
Good knowledge in regulative aspects in relation to emission control
Holistic view
Ability to negotiate and decide
Excellent collaboration skills with a strong player mind-set
Team-leadership skills
Education and experience requirements
PhD in Chemical Engineering or PhD in Material Science with focus on Catalysis
Several years experience in research or product development environment
Experience in emission control testing in different test environments
Travel
The position will include occasional travelling within our global organization and to external suppliers.
