The position
As a Principal Cloud Engineer at Viaplay, you will actively drive and participate in conversations regarding the cloud vision to ensure that we develop the platform to meet the challenges of a continuously growing user base. With your passion for technical leadership and willingness to act as a role model for others, you will be an advocate for the developer community and facilitate the development of technical strategies in your domain.
You will join a cloud-focused team of engineers and deliver engineering solutions aligned with technical and product long-term visions. We are cloud-native and are hosted in AWS. We strongly believe that being on the edge of things when it comes to technology is crucial, always keeping ourselves up to date and constantly challenging the status quo. As Principal Cloud Engineer, you will play an important role in this by bringing clarity to complexity and demonstrate smart ways to simply ensuring that we build a world-class streaming experience.

Your engagement will shape the future of our cloud solutions as you will be involved in defining the cutting-edge for video on demand. As our product grows to new customers and expands to new countries and regions, our top priority is to have a scalable and resilient platform to exceed the expectations of our audience.
Some of your daily challenges will include - but not be limited to:
• Develop and drive technical strategy across teams and across product areas.
• Focus on the scalability and availability of the cloud platform.
• Drive resilient and high performing microservice hosting solutions.
• Work with different software architectures, design patterns and frameworks.
• Act as a mentor and coach others to grow and improve their craftsmanship.
• Instigate iterative cloud improvements based on consumer feedback and behaviour data.
What we are looking for
We are looking for a passionate and experienced engineer who wants to drive technical innovation. We believe that you are currently working in a role as Principal Engineer, Technical Lead, Technical Director or Technical Architect, and have experience of working with a variety of challenges requiring complex technical problems. You thrive in a high-energy, autonomous team-driven environment where you are asked to have a strategic perspective to develop our business.
Successful candidates also meet the following requirements:
• Proven track record in architecting, developing and building cloud-native, performant, scalable, resilient distributed systems in AWS.
• 5+ years of experience planning, architecting, designing, and developing data systems.
• 3+ years of programming with Python.
• Experience mentoring other engineers.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to present complex technical information in a clear manner for a variety of audiences.
• Comfortable working within ambiguous problem areas and iterating toward a solution.
Bonus requirements that will make you stand out from the rest:
• Certification: AWS Advanced Networking Specialty (equivalent or higher).
• Certification: AWS Solutions Architect Professional (equivalent or higher).
• Certification: AWS DevOps Engineer Professional (equivalent or higher).
• Understanding of media streaming industry.
