About the roleAs Press and Communications Officer you will work strategically and operationally with various communication efforts, with a focus on press and media. The overall objective is to support the human rights defenders we partner with and to increase the awareness and engagement for the work of Civil Rights Defenders. As Press and Communications Officer. you will work in a team responsible for Civil Rights Defenders' presence in media, including all proactive and reactive media work, and other public advocacy work.
The Press and Communications Officer is part of the Communications Unit in the Communications and Fundraising Department, andreports to the Head ofCommunications.
The role offers great variety, including work tasks such as:
Plan, implement and coordinate communication efforts relevant to the organisation and its various target groups.
Act as Civil Rights Defenders press contact, including press phone, and press mail, on a rotating schedule.
Press and media work, including news monitoring and news evaluation, proactive and reactive media work in Sweden, preparation of media material, such as press releases, Q&As etc.
Provide support to Civil Rights Defenders spokespersons, including media training.
Write news articles and other texts for publication in traditional media and for Civil Rights Defenders website etc.
Update the organisation's website and social media with relevant and customised content.
Produce digital material, for example, infographics and short videos.
Document, analyse and evaluate communications efforts, in particular media efforts.
About you
As a person, you work well with other people and relate to them in a responsive and smooth way to reach common goals.You set clearly defined objectives for yourself and plan, organise, and prioritise your work efficiently to achieve them.You enjoy working in afast-paced environment where two days are rarely the same. As part of our dynamic team, you will need to be agile and quick-thinking.

To be suitable for this role you have:
Bachelors degreewith a focus on communication, political science or international relations.
A few years of experience with press work including news monitoring and news evaluation, proactive and reactive media work.
Experience in communications work such as writing various types of texts and text editing for print and digital channels or arranging seminars.
Good knowledge of how to independently handle and meet needs in press matters, internally and externally.
A fast and skilled writer able to explain complicated contexts adapted to different target groups.
Good understanding of social media and how to work with target-specific content.
Good understanding of human rights.
Good ability to strategically plan and structure, implement and follow up your work.
Documented excellence in Swedish and English (English level C2).
Great skills inMicrosoft 365 (Teams, Outlook, Excel, PPT, Word).
Good knowledge inWordPress or equivalent as well as Adobe Photoshop and easier video editing for social media.

It is a merit if you have:
Understanding of International Human Rights Law.
Experience in political advocacy and working in civil society organisations.
Experience in handling external suppliers.
Proficiency in other UN languages.
About the employment
This is a full-time temporary employment (parental leave) during the period of 1 May until 31 December, 2025.
