We are seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious early childhood English language teacher. We are looking for someone who has excellent knowledge of child development, will provide and encourage the children to learn English, and can enhance the education and development of our preschool children in preparation for their transition to school. You will be the only English speaking teacher as a part of our "language class" that currently consists of two Swedish speaking teachers.
As the English teacher, you will follow the Swedish preschool curriculum. It is a requirement that you are proficient in the Swedish language to be able to contribute and communicate with colleagues and parents.
About the preschool
Flygande mattan preschools are located in three locations in southern Stockholm: Jordbro, Skogås and Brandbergen. The teacher position is for our preschool in Jordbro. Flygande mattan is a multicultural preschool environment with Swedish as the major educational language. Our young children and teachers create a melting pot of different cultural backgrounds that enhances and adds value to the children's growth and personal development.
Our vision is to preserve children's curiosity and eagerness to understand their world and expand their knowledge of society and respect for all of humanity. By providing children with a strong foundation in their own and others cultural identity, a well-rounded education, and strong integrity, we set the learning foundation of our children.
Our preschools are united by common Islamic values, the Swedish curriculum values, and other guidelines for the educational system.
Requirements:
Must be a qualified Early Years Teacher with leadership experience.
Native English speaker or a degree in English language for younger children required.
Fluent in Swedish language (as all administrative work and communication with colleagues and parents is in Swedish).
Hold a valid Swedish work permit.
At least two years of experience caring for children and language teaching ranging in age from 1 to 5 years in a mixed-age childcare/preschool setting.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and comfortable presenting/articulating information and data.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently without supervision
Good time management skills.
Must be professional, reliable, and able to lead from the front.
Must be able to train and motivate your department, ensuring excellent teaching and learning through play
Be able to adapt to new environments, cultures, and ways of doing things.
Have respect for children, parents and colleagues from different cultures.
Experience working with families, identifying support as needed, and working in partnership to develop children's learning and development.
Excellent planning and organizational skills.
Possess the soft skills that are required to be a successful team player like patience, empathy, kindness, and friendliness.
Key responsibilities
Teaching English using lesson plans based on the Swedish preschool curriculum.
Manage all aspects of the children's day including meals, children's daily hygiene/diaper change, material care, cleaning, laundry, etc.
Participating in all preschool activities.
Work with an intercultural approach and support children's cultural identity.
Promote children's social skills, language skills, mathematical thinking, and environmental awareness by stimulating and strengthening through daily activities.
Document children's development and learning.
Contribute content to the team meetings, reflection times, etc.
Follow the preschool's curriculum and other local plans.
Have daily professional contact with the children's parents.
Other duties as assigned in addition to those mentioned above may occur depending on the needs and development of the preschool activity.
Start date: as soon as possible, with a 6 month probationary employment.
