We are looking for a Powertrain Engineer to join our Research & Development (R&D) Material Handling department at the Underground Rock Excavation (URE) division at Atlas Copco in Örebro

Job description
The powertrain is one of the main components in our articulated wheel loaders and dump trucks for underground mines and has a large impact on the end-products performance, availability and cost efficiency. Electrical drivetrains, increased performance and efficiency are major drivers in our current and future development work. We are now looking for a system-oriented powertrain engineer with a holistic and analytical approach that are eager to help us maintain our market leading position. The position will be in the Hydraulic and Power Train group at URE - Material Handling department. The different subsystems are becoming more and more integrated which creates new possibilities of innovative thinking.

The use of batteries combined with electrical motors as the main energy and power source opens up for new possibilities and challenges in terms of powertrain architecture, dimensioning criteria's and control strategies. Analyzing and understanding how different concepts, architectures and main components, e.g. motors, booth IC and electric, gearboxes, tiers, coolers, batteries, characteristics influence the end product's performance in different drive cycles is essential. You will work with the complete chain, from the first concept to follow up of the final product and have a dialogs with different sub and component -suppliers. Verifying the performance of the final product is also part of the work.

Your work will to a majority be on a project basis and you will be the R&D's representative regarding powertrain in different product and basic development projects. The goals and targets are achieved via a continuous dialogue with colleagues and stakeholders combined with a development work there the individual engineer has good possibilities to influence how to plan your work.

Experience and Knowledge
We believe you have an analytical approach, a system-oriented mindset and a good understanding of mobile powertrains and mechatronics. A good knowledge of powertrain / power distribution components, mechanical, electric or hydraulic, characteristic's and how to combine, dimension and control them in order to find the best compromise in terms of performance, energy efficiency etc. Experience from mobile equipment and functional development is meriting. Good knowledge of system simulation tools, e.g. Matlab Simulink, and a general understanding of control algorithms or vehicle dynamics is a great advantage.

Education Requirements
You should have a documented academic background within relevant area or other highly qualified engineering background.

Personality
To enjoy the work, it is important to have a genuine interest in technology and a desire to learn more about the products you are working with. Our design work is conducted in large own freedom and responsibility. These tasks requires many contacts both internally and externally, good interpersonal and communications skills are required to do the job. A good knowledge in English both written and spoken is required for the role. You preferably also have knowledge in Swedish.
