Since 1873, Atlas Copco has developed innovative products and solutions for the miningand tunneling industries. Right now, the company has ambitious plans for a global businessexpansion within underground mining. For that Atlas Copco needs to expand their developmentorganization with more than 50 engineers and managers. If you want to develop the company's future of world-class products, using the latest of engineeringmethods and processes, then you are the person Atlas Copco are looking for. Atlas Copco Underground Rock Excavation (URE) has a large program of machines used in tunnelling and underground mining operation, for example Drill Rigs, Bolting Rigs, Scaling Rigs, Loaders and Mine Trucks. The machines are used all around the world, normally in very harsh environments with high demands on safety, reliability and productivity. They are available in various technology levels, from simple to fully automated with diesel and/or electric drive trains.
Job description
You will work with design and development of the electrical systems for the next generation of electromechanical drivelines. You will also work with the electrical system for the cable reel systems for the electrical powered machines.
Examples of assignments could be to:
• Assure compliance of design with EMC and harmonic distortion requirements
• Calculate or simulate desired characteristics for system components
• Choose well known components from available suppliers suitable for the application
• Plan and perform measurements to verify designed performance of electrical components
You will also work together with stakeholders within the organization:
• Establish product goals and ensure that these are met.
• Participate in development/maintenance projects.
Design and development of new products.
The work involves system design, calculations, component choice, testing and documentation
Develop test methods towards an increased proactive manner, for example component testing.
Validation and verification of prototypes and machines by function and field tests.
Your task is to develop together with the group, technology and practices in the areas the group is responsible for. The job will involve many contacts with people both inside and outside URE, including international contacts.
You are also involved in the group's contacts with other stakeholders such as other functions in the URE (Underground Rock Excavation), for example, sales companies, customers, suppliers and other AC units around the world.
Skills and Knowledge
B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent knowledge). It is desired that you have a few years of practical experience in design work and work in modern CAD systems. It is an advantage if you have experience in working with mobile machinery, for example construction or mining machines. You will have contacts with other groups within and outside the Company. Communication skills and a good command of English both written and verbal is therefore essential. You also need to have very good interpersonal skills and interest in working in groups. Ability to organize and structure work in a dynamic environment and in collaboration with colleagues is also important.
The CAD tool Atlas Copco use are Autocad Electrical. Skills in ProEngineer would be seen as an advantage.
Experience from either of the following areas would be considered a merit:
• Safety of electrical systems
• Mining applications or construction machinery
• System simulations
• Electrical systems for electromechanical drivelines on construction machinery
• Experience from power electronics 400 - 1000V.
Country and city description
The successful candidate should be based in Örebro, Sweden. Örebro is Sweden's seventh biggest city, with around 130,000 inhabitants. It is located in the center of Sweden, population-wise - 2 hours to the east coast (including Stockholm); 3 hours to the west coast. There is a good infrastructure and facilities, and virtually no traffic - so the quality of life is high. There is an established and growing international community. There are also schools that offer education in English, including the International Baccalaureate syllabus, plus a university. More information on the city can be found on
