The subject area includes research and teaching on the design, planning, and management of landscapes. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a qualitative and/or quantitative research agenda in this area, with a particular focus on the European Landscape Convention and its implications for theory, methods, and practices. Applicants with a background in both landscape architecture and a different research field are especially encouraged to apply.
At the Department of Urban and Rural Development there are four divisions: Agrarian History, Environmental Communication, Landscape Architecture and Rural Development. The department is the largest within SLU for social sciences, humanities and design research. Questions about sustainable use and management of natural resources and landscapes are central to research and education at the department. The Swedish Centre for Nature Interpretation and Sida's Helpdesk for Environment and Climate Change are also part of the department. The announcement is part of a Departmental strategy to develop novel research on landscape theories and methods. We are particularly interested in receiving proposals for post doctoral research that closely match the profile of one or more of our existing research groups: design theory, landscape design and management, and spatial planning. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with the researchers and/or teachers of the landscape architecture program, the Department of Urban and Rural Planning, and SLU as a whole.
Duties:
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute actively to strengthening the research environment at the Division of Landscape Architecture. This will include:
• designing and implementing a research project in collaboration with other researchers in the Division of Landscape Architecture, Department of Urban and Rural Development, and SLU as a whole;
• disseminating the results of this research through publishing in academic and popular outlets, presentation to divisional, departmental, and institutional audiences, and conference participation in Sweden and abroad;
• working actively to bridge divisions between the research and teaching agendas of the Division of Landscape Architecture through regular engagement with students and teachers in the professional landscape architecture program.
Qualifications:
PhD degree in landscape architecture or related discipline is necessary as well as proficiency in English, both oral and written. Previous research experience and academic publications of relevant to the position is desirable as well as experience in professional landscape architecture practice. It is also desirable to have experience working in interdisciplinary teams, experience with external collaborations and experience teaching landscape architecture and/or related discipline. The ability to work effectively in both groups and independently is essential.
