Dina arbetsuppgifterWe are seeking an outstanding candidate who wishes to undertake a post-doctoral fellowship working with data that will be assimilated and collected as part of the IMI DIRECT project (www.direct-diabetes.org). DIRECT is a large, multicenter EU project that seeks to identify and validate biomarkers for the future stratification of treatment for type 2 diabetes. With over 40 million EUR funding, DIRECT is one of the largest and most well funded biomedical research projects in existence. The DIRECT consortium is comprised of scientists from the top diabetes research institutes in Europe and a number of major pharmaceutical companies.
The position is for two years in the first instance and will be based within the Genetic & Molecular Epidemiology Unit at Lund University Diabetes Center in Malmö, Sweden (www.ludc.med.lu.se/game). Tasks include risk prediction modeling, biomarker interaction modeling, systems epidemiology, multi-level association analyses, statistical method development, database organization and management, manuscript preparation and written and oral presentations of work performed. The candidate will work in close proximity with DIRECT scientists at Lund University Diabetes Center and with those at other DIRECT study centers across Europe. Hence, the candidate must be available for occasional travel throughout northern Europe.
Utbildning och erfarenhetPhD degree, no earlier than three years before the date of advertisement (max 3 years). This period is extended correspondingsly by parental leave, clinical service, and certain commissions of trust.
The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree in biostatistics, statistical genetics, bioinformatics, epidemiology (with strong analytical emphasis), or a closely related discipline. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in R and PEARL and will have an avid interest in learning new software packages. The applicant will have a strong foundation in protein-protein interaction networks and systems biology per se. Ideally, although not necessarily, the candidate will also be familiar with genetic analysis packages such as PLINK, IMPUTE, METAL and UNPHASED. Candidates with experience working in type 2 diabetes or related diseases will be favored, but this is not essential. The candidate should have a strong publication track record and proven experience working in collaborative settings.
The successful candidate will be expected to actively engage in writing-up data for peer-reviewed publication and to assist in writing and submitting funding applications.
Competence writing and speaking English is expected.
