Subject area
Physics (Atomic Physics)
Specific subject description
Time-resolved studies of atoms and molecules using ultrashort intense laser pulses in the extreme ultraviolet and X-ray regions
Job assignments
The work within this position will be performed at the Lund High power laser facility and to some extent at national and international user facilities, mainly involving experimental work. The project may include the following tasks: - To use and develop a high power femtosecond laser for the generation and optimization of intense high-order harmonics and attosecond pulses - Application of these intense harmonics to attosecond time-resolution studies of atoms and molecules using an imaging ion and electron spectrometer - Development of these experiments for attosecond applications to molecules of biological interest The postdoctoral fellow is expected to interact with the master students and the PhD-students in the research group and contribute to meetings and seminars. Teaching might also be part of the job.
Eligibility/Entry Requirements
Qualified for the position as postdoctoral fellow is a person who holds a doctorate or a foreign degree that is deemed equivalent to a doctorate and who has completed the degree within the three years prior to the last date for applications, unless there are valid reasons.
Other requirements are:
A doctorate degree in Physics, Chemistry or equivalent at the date of recruitment. Experience in one or more of the areas named below is a merit:
• Ultrafast (femtosecond) lasers
• High-order harmonic generation and/or attosecond physics
• Electron and ion (imaging) spectroscopy
• Work with molecules of biological interest
Experience in development of measurement and control software in LabView or similar environments.
Experience in data analysis using MATLAB or similar environments.
Experience in writing scientific papers in English.
Very good knowledge in written and spoken english.
Basis of Assessment
The main assessment criteria are expected ability to develop and pursue research of high quality and pedagogical ability. In the appointment of a postdoctoral fellow, scientific skills will be the prime consideration. The assessment of qualifications will be based on the definition of the scope of the position in question.
The selection to the postdoctoral position will be based upon the evaluation of the experiences and skills in the areas described above.
Important personal qualities are, beside creativity and a curious mind, the ability to work both independently and in a group and experience in the scientific interaction with researchers from other disciplines and in other countries.
Appointment Procedure
Please apply online!
The application shall include a description of how you can contribute to the research project based on your background and research interests, a curriculum vitae together with list of publications and information regarding teaching experience.
Lund University promotes an equal opportunities code. We encourage both men and women to apply for this position.
Applications will be destroyed or returned (upon request) two years after the decision of employment has become final. Applications from the employed and from those who appeal the decision will not be returned.
