hela Sverige AstraZeneca is a major international healthcare business engaged in the research, development, manufacture and marketing of prescription pharmaceuticals and the supply of healthcare services. But we're more than one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies. At AstraZeneca, we're proud to have a unique workplace culture that inspires innovation and collaboration. Here, employees are empowered to express diverse perspectives - and are made to feel valued, energized and rewarded for their ideas and creativity.
The Arena
Together with several European academic groups and pharmaceutical companies AstraZeneca is taking part in the IMI-SUMMIT collaboration. The central goal of this ongoing 5-year project is to identify surrogate markers for micro- and macrovascular complications in diabetes. These markers will be used as important tools to monitor the effect of interventions, but also to aid in the identification of patients at high risk of complications.
The Role
You will be a key person in the IMI-SUMMIT data analysis group where the tasks will include combining, analysing and visualising data from various sources to produce hypothesis linking identified biomarkers with different patient cohorts and disease progression. You will work together with experienced scientists from both academic and industry labs evaluating data generated by lipidomics, metabolomics, genetics, and bioinformatics to identify and validate biomarkers. You will be based at AstraZeneca R&D in Mölndal in the CVGI iMedTranslational Science department. You will be expected to work independently whilst maintain close collaboration with internal and external scientists.
Experiences/requirements
The successful candidate is expected to have:
• PhD in biology or related discipline, ideally in the context of diabetes, diabetic complications and/or cardiovascular diseases.
• Experience in analysing large datasets (e.g. omics data), applying advanced statistical methods and data mining with the intention of generating hypothesis for discussion, further validation and publication.
• Experience in programming/scripting languages (e.g., Perl, Python, R) and familiarity with Linux systems are preferred.
• Strong understanding of bioinformatics tools, an ability to perform pathway analysis and a track record of in silico research.
• Strong self motivation with excellent work ethics, demonstrated scientific curiosity, creativity and professionalism.
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written and a desire to collaborate.
