The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is a department at Karolinska Institutet and an interdisciplinary research institution within the broad field of environmental medicine. IMM conducts cutting edge research within the areas of environmental and occupational medicine, toxicology, physiology, epidemiology, and biostatistics with the aim to clarify how environmental and lifestyle factors affect our health and which role genes have. IMM also serves as a scientific advisor to public authorities within the area of environmental medicine and IMM scientists participate in national and international expert groups.



Division
The Unit of Epidemiology is focused on epidemiological research on the impact of environmental factors on the risk of diseases like cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

This research project aims to study the risk of diabetes in relation to dietary and lifestyle factors and the interaction between diet/lifestyle and genetic factors. To the project we are looking for a post doc with a background in nutrition, a PhD in the field of epidemiology and vast experience in the field of diabetes epidemiology.

Duties
The post doc is expected to work independently and formulate new hypotheses, handle databases, analyze data and write scientific papers. The work also involves teaching epidemiological methods at master level.

Entry requirements
A person is eligible for a position as Postdoctoral Researcher if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc. The term can be extended under special circumstances.

Qualifications

To be eligible, the applicant must:

- Have a degree in nutrition
- Have a PhD in medical science in the area of epidemiology
- Have experience in handling large databases
- Have experience in teaching epidemiological methods.
Applications are invited from talented and enthusiastic applicants with good knowledge in human nutrition, and with advanced knowledge in the field of epidemiology, biostatistics and diabetes. Experience with the statistical software SAS is a plus and so is teaching experience in the field of epidemiology. The applicant will need to both feel comfortable with working in teams and demonstrate good interpersonal skills and also be independent enough to formulate new hypotheses and critically examine the results.
