The School of Science and Technology at Örebro University, is seeking a postdoctoral researcher alternatively a researcher in mechanical engineering for a fixed-term two (2) year appointment.

At the School of Science and Technology, internationally renowned research is pursued in biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics, computer science, and mechanical engineering.

The Division of Mechanical Engineering offers four engineering programmes at the Bachelor's and Master's levels in mechanical engineering, and industrial and management engineering. At Örebro University, research in mechanical engineering is pursued within the framework of digitalized development and operation of sustainable products and production systems. Research is pursued in collaboration with world-leading companies such as SAAB, Volvo Cars, IKEA, LKAB, Atlas Copco, Tetra Pak, BillerudKorsnäs, and a number of small and medium-sized enterprises.

Duties and responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities include carrying out research under the leadership of Professor Löfstrand, including industry collaboration, data collection, process availability descriptions related to fault and failure descriptions, and process availability modelling and simulation in the context of reliability modelling. The role will involve developing algorithms and statistical models to predict the presence of faults, degradation and time to failure of assets (i.e. mechanical systems) based on data from sensors and condition monitoring systems.

Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering fields, Mathematics or Computer Science is required. The candidate should ideally have experience in machine learning techniques and statistical data analysis. Knowledge of predictive maintenance and Discrete Event Simulation (DES) is desirable. Proven ability in code development in a programming language such as Java, Python or C# is required.

Eligibility
Eligible for the appointment as postdoctoral researcher are applicants holding a doctoral degree in mechanical engineering or in, given the duties above, related subject areas, for example mathematics or computer science. A PostDoc position is offered if the successful applicants doctoral degree has been awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline. Candidates who have obtained their doctoral degree prior to that are also invited to apply, the successful applicant will in that case be offered a researcher position.

Assessment criteria
General assessment criteria include good interpersonal skills and an ability to cooperate as well as the ability and suitability otherwise required to perform the duties well. Fluency or near fluency in Swedish are highly valued due to industrial collaboration. Fluency or near fluency in English is desired. Strong competence in activities listed in the duties and responsibilities are required.

Information
The position is a full-time position for a fixed term of two years funded by Örebro University and is aimed at creating a strong research group within mechanical engineering. The salary depends on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience.
