We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher in Plant Biology/Biochemistry for a fixed-term position of two years at the School of Science and Technology.

Subject area
The subject area for this position is Biology.

Background
A two-year postdoctoral position funded by The Swedish Research Council for Sustainable Development (FORMAS) is available starting mid-2022 to work on molecular mechanisms underlying UV-A perception in plants.

The postdoc will pursue research at Örebro Life Science Center at the School of Science and Technology. The Örebro Life Science Center provides a creative multidisciplinary environment with a focus on basic and applied research of living systems. At the School of Science and Technology, internationally renowned research is pursued in biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics, computer science, and mechanical engineering. Örebro University is one of the fastest growing universities in Sweden with 17000 students and 1600 employees and ranks among the top 500 universities in the world according to Times Higher Education 2022.

Duties and responsibilities
The appointment as a postdoctoral researcher is intended to enable persons who have recently been awarded their doctoral degree, to consolidate and develop primarily their research skills.

The successful candidate is expected to employ a combination of genetics, molecular and genomic approaches with physiological measurements to assess mechanisms mediating plant responses to UV radiation and other light qualities. The project involves work with Arabidopsis and model crop species. In addition to research, the postdoc will be involved in the supervision of Bachelor and MSc students at Örebro university.

Qualifications
Those qualified for appointment as a postdoctoral researcher are applicants who have been awarded a doctoral degree in a subject matter relevant for the position or have a degree from abroad deemed to correspond to a doctoral degree. Candidates who are expected to complete a doctoral degree after the application deadline will also be given full consideration but in that case proof of a completed degree must be presented before an appointment decision can be taken. The degree is to have been awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline. If special grounds exist, a person who has been awarded their doctoral degree prior to that should also be considered. Such grounds comprise leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, clinical practice, positions of trust in a trade union or other similar circumstances.

Assessment criteria
The basis for assessment is the applicant's scientific expertise, skills, and knowledge in the subject matter. Particular attention is paid to the applicant's prospects to contribute to research and the demonstrated ambition to embark on a career within academia as well as the ability and suitability to collaborate with other members of the research environment.

Other assessment criteria

The successful candidate should have a strong background in plant photobiology and demonstrated productivity in the form of peer-reviewed publications. Proficiency in general molecular and protein biochemistry techniques is essential. Skills in co-immunoprecipitation, and other relevant experimental approaches for detecting protein-protein interaction and protein-DNA interaction is desired. Experience in analysis of next generation sequencing data is also a plus. The candidate must be highly motivated, independent and have excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
