Örebro University is a modern and prominent broad-based university with the courage to review and the ability to evolve. Our professional degree programmes are among the best in the country and we endeavour to be an attractive place of work where members of staff feel a sense of pride and satisfaction. 1,300 employees and 15,000 students come to work and study at Örebro University.

The School of Medical Sciences (MV) at Örebro University is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in medicine, functional bioinformatics, for a fixed-term appointment.

This position is part of the research group Functional Bioinformatics and closely associated with Medical Microbiology, within the frame of the Nutrition-Gut-Brain Research Centre, NGBI.

Duties and responsibilities
Research involves both wet-lab work in the microbiology lab, implementing and further developing appropriate data analysis algorithms and workflows, as well as modelling approaches. Different levels of functional data will be obtained from microbiology experiments with human cell cultures and/or gastro-intestinal biopsies, together with co-cultured bacterial species. Statistical bioinformatics and functional systems biological modelling methods will be applied and further developed in order to better understand the ongoing regulatory cross-talk in this kind of systems.

Eligibility
Eligible for the appointment as postdoctoral researcher are applicants holding a doctoral degree in bioinformatics or in related subject areas. The doctoral degree should have been awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline. Candidates who have obtained their doctoral degree prior to that may however also be considered if special grounds exist (leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, clinical duties, an elected position in a trade union, or other similar circumstances).

Assessment criteria
The successful candidate has both practical experience in the field of medical microbiology and in bioinformatics algorithmic development. Important competences include programming in C/Fortran/R/matlab, a sound background in statistics and statistical learning, as well as experiences in systems biological modelling approaches.

General assessment criteria include good interpersonal skills and an ability to cooperate as well as the ability and suitability otherwise required to perform the duties well.

Equality
Our ambition is to create a place of work that is characterised by gender equality and diversity.

Information
The position is a full-time (100 %) position for a fixed term of two years. The salary depends on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience.
