We are now seeking a deep learning expert capable of developing methods for medical image analysis
Work assignments
The position is about developing deep learning methods for medical image processing, with a focus on orthopedics, cardiovascular disease and federated learning. Within orthopedics the focus is on finding atypical femur fractures and predicting hip prosthetic loosening, using a very large x-ray dataset. For cardiovascular disease the goal is to from CT volumes predict if a patient is at risk for atherosclerosis. The position also involves developing methods for federated learning, where data are spread across nodes.

As postdoc, you will principally carry out research. A certain amount of teaching may be part of your duties, up to a maximum of 20% of working hours.

Qualifications
To be qualified to take employment as postdoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This degree must have been awarded at the latest by the point at which LiU makes its decision to employ you.

It is considered advantageous if your doctoral degree is no older than three years at application deadline for this job. If there are special reasons for having an older doctoral degree - such as taking statutory leave - then these may be taken into consideration.

We are looking for someone with a PhD in (medical) image processing, computer vision, computer science or machine learning. Experience with CNNs, vision transformers and deep learning tools such as Tensorflow, Pytorch and Keras is expected. Experience with federated learning would be advantageous. We also think that you have experience in handling large medical image datasets and using GPU clusters for training large models.

You are independent, meticulous and work efficiently. Since this employment involves collaboration with several researchers it is important that you can communicate well with all the involved researchers.

The workplace
Linköping University is one of the leading AI institutions in Sweden. We have strong links to prominent national research initiatives, such as DDLS, WASP and ELLIIT. You will have access to state-of-the-art computing infrastructure for machine learning, e.g. through Berzelius as well as powerful local computers.

You will work at the Division of biomedical engineering (IMT), which conducts research within many different projects connecting medicine and engineering. The available position is within a research group which develops methods for analysis of medical images. The group collaborates with several medical doctors at Linköping University hospital, through CMIV, with different types of expertise. The group also collaborates with other divisions at Linköping University; mainly the computer vision laboratory at the department of electrical engineering (focusing on deep learning for computer vision), and the division of statistics and machine learning at the department of computer and information science (focusing on the theory behind machine learning).

The employment
This employment is a temporary contract of two years with the possibility of extension up to a total maximum of three years. The employment is full-time.
