Department
At the Department of Public Health Sciences we conduct research, teaching and applied work based on public health science and epidemiology.

The research is aimed at analysing health determinants on the population level, and developing and evaluating preventative structural and individualised measures, including legislation and guidelines. The field also includes health economics, health systems research and implementation research. Our activities have a strongly international flavour, and the Department's researchers are scientific advisers to authorities and other decision-makers on the regional, national and international level. The Department is divided into research groups operating within the fields of global health, public health epidemiology and social medicine with a total of 150 employees. In addition, we have around 70 research students. This position is located in the health system and policy (HSP) research group research group

Duties
You will be based at the department of Public Health Sciences within the health system and policy (HSP) research group, Solna, Stockholm, Frequent travels to Uganda are though required. You are expected to support both, the research collaboration of our HSP research group with Makerere University and the quality improvement work of the Health and Demographic Surveillance Site (HDSS) in Iganga, Eastern Uganda. The work at the HDSS will include strengthening of data collection, quality assurance, the transition to electronic data capturing at the HDSS and support to the set-up of the pregnancy cohort within the HDSS.

Your responsibilities will include grant applications, project coordination, including report writing and budgeting, data analysis and scientific paper writing. Some teaching in our Masters and Undergraduate courses will, to some extent, be part of the work as well as supervision / co-supervision of students at Masters and potentially at PhD level.

The research field of the HDSS spans from maternal and child health, communicable and non-communicable diseases, health systems to pharmacological work. A major focus of the current work will however be on improving the capturing of risk factors in pregnancy and early childhood. Still, you will be encouraged to engage into own projects and to support the grants acquirement in areas beyond maternal and child health.

The intention is for the position to be for 2 years, but will begin with an employment period of 6 months.

Entry requirements
A person is eligible for a position as Postdoctoral Researcher if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc.

A PhD in epidemiology or postgraduate expertise in epidemiology/statistics and experience in primary data collection is a must for the position. Furthermore, excellent knowledge of the English language is required, both in speaking and in writing, as well as willingness to travel to Uganda.

Knowledge and experience in maternal and child health, project management and coordination and collaborative international research project will be considered an advantage.

We are looking for an independent researcher with strong team-working, intercultural communication and collaboration skills.
