Postdoctoral researcher in human geography

Örebro University offers courses in human geography at both the Bachelor's and Master's levels. Most of the courses offered in the subject are included on the Programme in Urban and Regional Planning and on the one-year Master's programme in Public Planning for Sustainable Development. In addition, there is a human geography doctoral programme with its own team of doctoral students. Human geography research at Örebro University is conducted within areas such as urban and regional planning; regional development and labour market; economic geography and industry transformation; and on issues relating to the environment, climate and sustainability. The department's research is distinguished by multidisciplinary collaborations, resulting in international publications.

Duties and responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities for this post are primarily research and research initiation. Teaching of up to 20 per cent of a full time post is also included, as are administrative duties and supervision, and assessment of students at the Bachelor's and Master's levels. As part of their duties, the post holder is expected to write an application for an externally funded research project. This work shall be done in collaboration with colleagues within the department with the aim of strengthening its research.

Qualifications
Those qualified for this appointment as a postdoctoral researcher are applicants who have obtained a doctoral degree in human geography or other relevant subject or have a degree from abroad deemed to correspond to a doctoral degree. The doctoral degree shall have been awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline. If special grounds exist, a person who has been awarded their PhD prior to that may also be considered. Such grounds comprise leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, clinical duties, an elected position in a trade union, or other similar circumstances.

Assessment criteria
A general assessment criteria shall be the candidate's ability to communicate, collaborate and engage with society, and to facilitate the utilisation of the University's research. Other general assessment criteria are the candidate's ability and suitability to cooperate with other staff and to contribute to the development of the University operations.

Particular importance shall be attached to the qualities enabling the candidate to contribute to the department's future development of both research and education. A demonstrated ability and desire to pursue an academic career is also of importance.

Particular importance will be paid to candidates' documented experience of being published internationally. Successful applications for research grants are considered a particular advantage. Great importance will be attached to the candidates' personal qualities, such as interpersonal skills and autonomy; their involvement in the operations onsite; as well as their interest in research development. Experience of teaching with Swedish as the language as instruction is considered an advantage.

Information
The position is a full-time post (100%) for a fixed term of one year. The salary depends on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience. The starting date for the post is the autumn 2019, on 1 November 2019 at the earliest.
